Don't forget; the Kent Area Toy Drive ends on December 5. That's Saturday! And this year there are 2,150 needy families who have registered for toys. As you can imagine, the organizers are concerned about a shortage. Fortunately, this isn't an insurmountable problem. At Stahl's, our box is waiting to receive your donations of new, unwrapped toys. We'll even give you a cookie for each one. Of course there are other drop-off locations, some of which have incentives like discounts, matching donations, or freebies. Perhaps the best incentive aside from keeping the Grinch at bay is the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Places like City Bank Antiques, Logos Bookstore, McKay-Bricker Gallery, Sue Nelson Designs, Katie Brooke Quilt Shop, and Woodsy's Music carry unique items that stand out from the usual boring mall fare. Here's the list of all the participants: Bob Evans Farms Restaurant, Catholic Charities of Portage County, City Bank Antiques, Copy Print, Dalton's Furniture, Downtown Betty's Salon and Gallery, Franklin Square Deli, Hall-Green Agency, Heavenly Cupcakes, Huntington Bank-West, Image Consultants, Larry Kannal Insurance, Katie Brooke Quilt Shop, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Logos Book Store, McKay Bricker Framing & Gallery, Main Street Kent, Pufferbelly Restaurant, Ray's Place, Schlabig & Associates, Ltd., Scribbles Café, Smokin' Tatooz, Sue Nelson Designs, Williams, Welser, & Kratcoski, LLC, and Woodsy's Music. Don't forget: Saturday's the last day!

Now to the Stahl's Bakery news. This Friday closes out Mulligatawny soup. Next week's soup: Curried Pumpkin. This Saturday's bread: Italian.

Keep an eye on the next few weeks: on the following two Saturdays, Dec. 12 & 19, we'll be participating in the 2nd Christmas Farmers' Market. As last year, the law offices of Williams, Welser, & Kratcoski, LLC have been generous enough to open their garage for the occasion. More specifics to come.

Naturally we're making Christmas cutout cookies every day, and our annual Christmas specials are in the works. Peppermint pinwheels, eggnog drops, chocolate pinwheels, and pistachio leaves, not to mention nut crescents, Czech pastries, pies, nutrolls, gingerbread houses and on, and on, and on! Don't forget to order cookie trays for your own party or the one you've been invited to (and don't know what to take).

Perhaps this is a good time to expand our Customer Appreciation month beyond November? This time, we'll also extend it to Monday. You know, so you can take toys plus do a little shopping downtown on Saturday without missing out.
