Yep, Thanksgiving is only a week away! Are you prepared? Do you have your turkey stowed safely in the freezer? Cans of yams ready to be candied? Pies and cakes ordered from Stahl's? Need an incentive to stop by? How about a free turkey cookie? In exchange for your art, of course! As we have for the past several years, Stahl's will be having "Make a turkey, get a turkey." We provide crayons and paper, you provide your hands and imagination.  Make a hand turkey for our wall and we'll give you a free turkey cookie! No coupon required, no age limit! In fact we're looking forward to somebody breaking the record set a couple of years ago when a 78-year old stepped up to the challenge. Any 80+ year olds looking for artistic fame on the bakery wall?  After all, you don't want those septuagenarian whippersnappers hogging all the attention.

Of course we can take your Thanksgiving order over the phone, but this is 'way more fun.

And then there's soup; this week, settle down to some hearty Beef-Vegetable with a roll. Just $4.25 for a 16 oz. bowl. A heads up for next week: Cream of Potato (vegetarian).

For Saturday, we continue to appreciate our customers with Mini Pumpkin Pie, Cannoli, and Rye Bread.  Here's the coupon:

Customer Appreciation Coupon

Good on Saturday, November 21, 2009

1 Cannoli w/ coffee - free

or

1 Mini Pumpkin Pie w/ coffee -free

or

1 Loaf of Rye Bread for .60

****************************************************************

The mini pie is enough for one or two people, and it's a great way to 'interview' our pumpkin before ordering the full size for you family's Thanksgiving get-together.

Needless to say, "while supplies last," so we'll stay open a bit past our regular 1:00 closing time, but you might want to head over earlier for best selection.

BTW, Thanksgiving pies are: Pumpkin, Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, Custard, and Coconut Custard.

In other news, this is Stahl's second year as a drop off location for the Kent Area Toy Drive. As we all know, there are many worthy organizations across the country that collect toys for needy children at Christmas. After all, a child in need in another community, or even country, is just as important as a child in need here. BUT, wouldn't it be a shame if we turned our backs on the kids in our own neighborhoods in order to help elsewhere? If you have a yen to help, please bring in new, unwrapped toys from now until Dec. 5. Why unwrapped? So Kent Social Services can arrange for parents to choose the toys best suited to their own kids. Although the box in our store is for toys, Kent Social Services has a wish list of other needs for food baskets, also. Pick up a copy when you stop by. Here are the other stores collecting toys: Bob Evans Farms Restaurant, Catholic Charities of Portage County, City Bank Antiques, Copy Print, Dalton's Furniture, Downtown Betty's Salon and Gallery, Franklin Square Deli, Hall-Green Agency, Heavenly Cupcakes, Huntington Bank-West, Image Consultants, Larry Kannal Insurance, Katie Brooke Quilt Shop, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Logos Book Store, McKay Bricker Framing & Gallery, Main Street Kent, Pufferbelly Restaurant, Ray's Place, Schlabig & Associates, Ltd., Scribbles Café, Smokin' Tatooz, Sue Nelson Designs, Williams, Welser, & Kratcoski, LLC, and Woodsy's Music.

In still other non-food news, one of Kent's own is returning. Cara Armstrong, the Curator of Education at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High, has written & illustrated a children's book called Moxie: the Dachshund of Fallingwater. She'll be at Logos Bookstore on Friday at 4:00 to meet people & sign books. More info at www.kentlogos.com
