Lots to do, lots to do!

Naturally, there's the Haymaker Farmers' Market on Saturday from 9-1. If you've been attending, you may have noticed that the market's getting bigger and bigger. According to market Manager Fritz, we had a record 44 vendors last Saturday.

Also, naturally, Stahl's will be there this coming Saturday. Our special bread this week will be Carrot-Herb. Don't confuse this bread with a sweet quickbread! You know the kind served at ladies luncheons with a glaze on top so sugary that it might as well be a carrot cake. No, this little gem is a savory yeast bread. The carrots do give a bit of sweetness along with flavor, but they don't overpower the other flavors, and you won't feel the need to delicately raise your pinkie finger. Other ingredients include olive oil and whole wheat flour.

Returning this week?  Breakfast Calzones and Sassafras Tea.  Breakfast Calzones are Italian bread pockets filled with eggs, sausage, and cheese; they're the last thing out of the oven before we leave in the morning, so they arrive hot at the market.

If you've been in the bakery this week, you might have caught some dulcimer/guitar music on the too-loud CD player. Consider it a preview of this Saturday's entertainment:  Lisa and Heather Malyuk will be playing live from 10-12. These sisters are great!  Come down for a listen, and you might adopt a CD for yourself!

But wait, there's more! Saturday is the 6th Annual Ice Cream Social. Like most D.I.C.E.* events, it will be held at Home Savings Plaza. It starts at 1 and goes on until 4. Ice cream at 25 cents/scoop, face painting and lots of music from organ to Barbershop Quartet.

Don't feel like you have to stick to the corner, though.  The Kent Historical Society will be open from 11-2, and City Bank Antiques will be giving antique clock tours from 11-5.  Find out more about the Ice Cream Social at www.standingrock.net.  City Bank Antiques, which you may remember was voted top five in their division in the Fox8 Akron-Canton Hotlist, also has a website: www.citybankantiques.com
