Stahls E- News
1

It's been a while since our last newsletter, but the 'goodbye' in the title hasn't to do with us directly - we're still here!

Our first goodbye does have something to do with Stahl's; to our great sadness, Shirley Stahl, co-founder of Stahl's Bakery passed away on May 28 at the age of 88.

Although Mr. & Mrs. Stahl retired from the bakery in 1986, many long-time customers and visiting alumni still remember her fondly. Some didn't even realize that she was the co-owner, just that she was “That very nice lady at the front counter.” And even though her memory and health had declined in recent years, her sweet demeanor never wavered. If you'd like to read a nice tribute to Mrs. Stahl, here's a link: www.recordpub.com/obituaries/2015/05/31/shirley-mae-stahl And if you're curious about our early history, go to our website at www.kentbakery.com and check out the “About Us” section.

Other goodbyes are to Young's Screenprinting & Embroidery, which has moved a few miles over to Stow, and WordSmith's, which has closed. It's always sad to see another local icon shut its doors permanently, and we wish the owner a good retirement, and congratulations on leaving on her own terms. (see the www.Kentwired.com article from May 11 for more info.)

As to our “hello,” we'd like to give a big welcome to our new neighbors in the plaza, Lucci's Place. Lucci's is in the old Bruno's Pizza Location, and there have been some pretty good smells coming out of there since they opened a little over a week ago. Currently, they're sticking to New York style pizza for pickup or delivery. Check out their facebook page for more info.

And finally for Stahl's Bakery news: Yes! We're going to be at the Stow Community Farmers' Market again this year! It will be our 4th year at this terrific market, so come out & see us (and, you know, the farmers)! It starts at 9 am this Saturday at the Stow Community Church at 1567 Pilgrim Drive.

In other Stahl's news; once again we're in the running for best bakery on the Akron-Canton Hotlist, and we'd appreciate your vote! Also your relatives', friends', co-workers', and neighbors' votes, so let them know, too. You will have to register on the site, but they take no personal information, and you can opt out of marketing e-mails if you'd like. Your account will be permanent, so you can keep voting for us year after year. With one registration, you can also vote for Kent business in other categories -- Logos Bookstore, Franklin Square Deli, 101 Bottles, and City Bank Antiques to name just a few. What's in it for you? Encouraging your favorite independent businesses. What's in it for us? Awareness. As you know, we're pretty out of sight, and many people fly by us on Main St. without realizing there's a terrific, from-scratch, locally-sourcing bakery so close. We discovered several years ago that just being on the Hotlist bumped our website link from page 6 to page one of Google's search engine, which made a huge difference to us! The more customers we have, the more we can afford to do for you! So, win-win. Here's the link: http://akron.cityvoter.com/stahls-s-bakery/biz/72779

Don't wait - voting ends on June 14

See you Saturday!
