By now, everyone going to school is back to school, and just in time to take Labor Day off! Remember when Labor Day was THE last gasp of everyone's summer schedule? The very last picnic-ing, swimming, sleeping-in, sandal-wearing, white-clothes-sporting, reading-only-for-pleasure, tenting-in-the-back-yard day of Summer with a capital “S.” Of course actual summer continued, but it always seemed sort of...toothless. The intensity was gone because we were all doing the kids' equivalent of work; school. Now we're all doing the adults' equivalent of school: work, and there's no longer that 'screech to a halt' feeling at the beginning of September since much of our schedules stay the same throughout the year. Unless you're a teacher, of course. In that case, gotta set that alarm because it's back to work!

Some things are wrapping up bit-by-bit; This Friday, D.I.C.E.'s* Sidewalk Cinema schedule finishes up with the animated Aliens vs. Monsters (PG). Speaking of movies & wrapping up: you know school's back in session because Midway Drive-In is only open on weekends now. Other things aren't even close to wrapping up, though: Sunbeau Valley's busy season continues this weekend as the Civil War Encampment brings history up close & personal on Saturday & Sunday.

The Stow Farmers' Market is another thing still going strong, although we'll be wrapping up some of our summer-style cookies – this weekend will be the last market we'll be bringing Watermelon and Pink & Purple Butterfly Frosted Cookies. Don't worry, we'll just be switching to more fall colors & shapes by next week. Many of our other offerings aren't affected by season. Pizzelles, Caramel-fille Brownies, Raspberry & Blueberry Muffins, and Traditional Cookies to name a few. Will there be Almond Petit Fours?  Maybe. (probably) We'll also be bringing Italian Bread, which is always in season, naturally, but continues the back-to-school theme with another great lunch-packing bread.

Mike Harvan returns as this week's (solo) musical guest. Mike's new band, The RailShakers has just finished recording their first CD and will be appearing at Acorn Alley on September 5, so stop by the music tent & wish him well.

See you Saturday!
