Be on the lookout...

Does that phrase remind you of an old whodunnit? Well, Stahl's dunnit. Lost control of the bouquet garni*, that is, and allowed the whole cloves to get loose! All the escapees have been caught...hopefully. But you should still be on the lookout for a stray clove when you come in for this week's soup; Mulligatawny. One thing you won't need to look for, though, is chicken, because this soup is absolutely packed full of it. Also green & red bell peppers, onions, celery, a pinch of curry, and apples! Not sure if this Anglo-Indian classic is your cup of tea <insert groan here>? Stop by for a free sample. And if you already love it but need to convince family & friends to join you...just tell them it's chicken-vegetable soup. You don't need to add “...and spice, and fruit, and herbs.” That's the thing about soup; when the flavors line up, the whole is better than the sum of its parts.

Something else that's a returning Stahl's favorite, yet a little out of the mainstream? Rose Butter Cookies. Made with true rosewater, these bite-sized cookies bring back a very old flavor that seems to have been passed by over the last 100 years or so. Which is a mistake, as you'll find out. If you're not sure whether you'll like the taste, we're giving away free samples of them, also.

Did you know that February is National Cherry Month? Seems kind of weird, since the trees this time of year are nothing but empty branches against the grey sky. But maybe that's the point; something cheery/cherry to brighten up the monochrome winter. Or maybe it's just because they're so linked with President Washington and this is his birthday month. Who cares?!? We're bringing back Cherry Walnut Muffins to celebrate! And this weekend, we'll also be making Cherry Pie. You know you want some.

Sneak peek for next week: Cream of Mushroom Soup

*bouquet garni is a sachet or bundle of herbs/spices infused in soup – bundled so that they can be taken out at the end of cooking.
