Get out your long johns! Because this Saturday, D.I.C.E.'s* annual “Make Mine With Ice, Please” ice carving demonstration is being held downtown at Hometown Bank Plaza. Starting at 1, students and faculty from Akron University & Kent State are given giant blocks of ice, some elbow room, and three hours. Then using their imagination, talent, and tools from chain saws to clothes irons, they're to carve solid water into hearts, flowers, squirrels, hummingbirds, and other non-ice figures. The forecast shows a high in the mid-twenties, but partially sunny, with no snow expected. Great weather for spectating with an occasional visit next door to Anthony's Cafe – to warm your innerds with some hot chocolate or coffee. Stahl's Bakery will be there, too. Not carving, of course – that would not be pretty. We will be bringing Italian Bread, Coconut Macaroons, Anise Pizzelles, and some special goodies for the sweeties in your life. Valentine's Day is around the corner, after all.

Speaking of which, we'll be keeping up with the demand for Caramel-filled Brownies, Raspberry Dark Chocolate Truffles, Cupcakes, Frosted Heart Cookies, and Cakes in a variety of sizes, flavors, and shapes. We'll even have special boxes available to turn a delicious treat into a delicious gift.

As far as the non-sweets are concerned: This week we're serving Chunky Tomato Bisque with a roll for $4.25, and next week we'll be serving Cauliflower Soup. Is that a Valentine-themed soup? Well, cauliFLOWER, after all.  Sorry, sometimes ya have to really reach for a tie-in.
