At least we hope you'll find the returning things make you happy!

Let's start with the important news: Mike's back! You might have read in the Record-Courier that Mike Butz, our Ravenna colleague who owns Deluxe Pastry had a minor stroke a few weeks ago. Minor as far as strokes go, that is. Pretty major as far as running a bakery – there's a lot of hand work that goes on behind the scenes, even in a larger bakery with more equipment. You really need both hands to do certain things like roll & cut donuts. Mike's been working as hard at therapy over the last weeks as he usually does at the bakery, so Deluxe reopens on Friday. It may seem odd for one bakery to cheer on another; we're competition, after all. But not only are we far enough apart for that not to be significant, we're friends and also one of their customers. It's no secret that in our 62 years, Stahl's has never had a fryer, and the only way we can have donuts in our case is to get them from another bakery. So from Thursday through Friday, we carry their glazed donuts and chocolate creamsticks. And now they're back!

We have some returning goodies of our own this weekend, too. Saturday's bread at the Haymaker Farmers' market is Roasted Garlic Asiago. Individual Focaccias also make a return appearance. Remember these? We make the dough with herb-infused olive oil, then brush more on the outside, dredge them in two kinds of cheese, and finally top them with slices of red onions, rosemary, and/or slices of Chaykowski Farms' tomatoes. Don't worry, we'll have more than savory bread goodies: Pizzelles, Cutout Cookies, Traditional Cookies (Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal-Raisin, Sugar-nutmeg, Soft Gingersnap, Peanut Butter), Coconut Macaroons, Raspberry & Wild Blueberry Muffins, and Caramel-filled Brownies will be waiting for you at our table. We bake all of these with locally-milled Star of the West flour - how often do you get to indulge in something as decadent as a Caramel-filled Brownie and wrap the moral superiority of 'local support' around yourself? Answer: Any time you come to Stahl's Bakery or our booths at either the Saturday Haymaker, or the Wednesday Peninsula Farmers' Markets.

And one more happy return for this weekend; Brad Bolton & Peggy Coyle will be the musical guests.

See you Saturday & Wednesday!
