This Saturday, barring another hard storm (like last year), Main Street Kent will be hosting the annual “Masterpieces on Main Art & Wine Festival.” For $10, you can get a commemorative wineglass and 3 tickets to redeem for your choice of samples, but don’t go looking for the excitement on Main St. – “Masterpieces on Main” is actually being held along Water Street, running from noon until 10. Since three wine tastings probably won't be enough for the entire 10 hours, once you've got your glass in hand, you can buy additional tastings for $1.00 each.  There will also be live musical entertainment, starting with Haymaker regulars Brad Bolton & Peggy Coyle. Never fear, they’ll be back with us on July 9. Meanwhile, this week at the Haymaker Farmers’ Market, we’ll be listening to another of our regulars, Andrea Bussinger.

“Masterpieces on Main” may not be your run-of-the-mill college town weekend drinking binge, but you’ll still want to have something in your stomach beforehand. You really don’t want to buy art with clouded judgment, do you? Yes, of course we’ll help you lay in a base for the festivities! Italian Bread, Dried Tomato Basil Bread, Traditional Cookies, Frosted Cookies, Caramel-Filled Brownies, Coconut Macaroons, Cherry-filled Chocolate Cupcakes, Muffins, Pies, Pizzelles, and Czech Pastries. There! That should help. And for those of you who have already requested the return of Individual Focaccias, we’ll be bringing Individual Blueberry Focaccias. These are a little bit sweet; just enough to enhance the blueberries without overdoing the sugar. And if you still want to know when we’ll be doing the type with savory herb-infused olive oil, tomatoes, and red onions….soon. Normally we can’t do them properly until mid-summer, when the local tomatoes have ripened. This year, we’ve heard from Bernie, owner of Chaykowski Farms of Mantua, that his hoop house/greenhouse is bringing tomatoes along ahead of schedule. Northern Ohio schedule, that is. Mr. C. thinks he’ll have ripe tomatoes in a couple of weeks! W00T! Stand back, bakers first!
