As predicted (see last week's e-newsletter), the temperature has warmed up with the start of Winter! Of course 28 isn't exactly tropical. You'd better get some Cream of Potato soup from Stahl's. Pick up some for lunch and you'll be able to face whatever the second half of the day brings. Which could just mean chilly weather, or perhaps something more sinister: last minute Christmas shopping. Well, that doesn't have to be very sinister at all, and not just because you've fortified yourself with great soup. In fact, chances are you'll be able to get everything you need on your shopping list right in Kent, and with the money & time you've saved, keep on shopping for yourself. You know, in case the people who've drawn your name for the gift exchange go to the mall. We've got stores with some unique items, like The Works, or how about something especially classy and rare, like an antique from City Bank Antiques? Hint: if grandma gets tears in her eyes and says “I had one of these when I was a little girl,” you're now the favorite grandchild. That cousin who used to get straight-As? No contest. Are books on your list? That's easy: Logos, Dubois, or Last Exit Books. And don't be afraid to explore: you might find something you weren't expecting. For instance, did you know that Sue Nelson Designs carries an extensive collection of Christmas ornaments? So does Black Squirrel Gallery!

And if you have Martha Stewart tendencies, check out Katie Brooke Quilt Shop to put your personal stamp on a handmade gift from the heart – or a gift of quilting lessons in case your giftee is the Martha wannabe. Not all gift certificates have to involve the giftee's creativity, though. Both downtown tattoo parlors – Defiance and Smokin' Tattooz - have gift certificates available for that impossible-to-buy-for person.

Come back to Stahl's after your successful local shopping to treat yourself, and maybe take something home to your family, friends, or neighbors. We have cookie trays, nut rolls, Peppermint Bark, Buche de Noel, pies, and more! Even treats for the family pets. As long as your family pet is a dog or a cat, that is. The extra bonus of giving gifts from Stahl's is that recipient with absolutely everything won't have to find a spot for it or dust it, and you won't be seeing your present at their next yard sale, or worse, re-gifted. Play your cards right, and they might even share with you. Talk about a win-win.
