To school that is, at least mostly. Kent City Schools started back Wednesday, and KSU's first day is this coming Monday. Season-wise, it's still summer, but we've got that 'one foot in vacation, one foot in school' feeling. Cooler temperatures are showing up,  which makes it easier for Stahl's to bring certain....chocolatey things to the Haymaker Farmers' Market. A new treat with a fudgy filling, perhaps?

Back to school also means brown bag lunches, and we'll be bringing some things for you to pack in your family's (and your own). Let's start with the main event: the sandwich. This week's variety bread will be Honey Whole Wheat. While many whole wheat breads are actually “wheaten,” using a percentage of refined flour, ours is made with 100% whole wheat. In case you're wondering what sandwich filling goes well with this, the answer is “Everything!” But a particular fave here at Stahl's is the PB&J. Peanut Butter and Jelly is just made for Honey Whole Wheat, and so simple! Hopefully you've got peanut butter at home, but if the jelly jar is empty, there are several market vendors who can help you out: Shari's Berries, Black Dog Acres, and Chris' Kitchen spring to mind. Can't make up your mind? Fortunately, jams and jellies will keep – try several. Here's a heads up: savory jellies are “in” and our vendors are making them.

Of course we'll be bringing cookies; the sandwich might be the big noise in that brown bag, but ya gotta have dessert! Don't forget some sides, too. Snackin' veggies and fruits are plentiful at the market this time of year. Talk about one-stop shopping! And soooo good for you!

Other things going on this weekend at the market: newcomers Vagrant Revival is our musical group for this week's “Music at the Market.” Something kid-related is the new Haymaker Market Blossoms, a series of “do-along” projects for K-12. Can't stop yourself from getting more produce than you can eat in a week? Well, who could – it's all so good! The OSU County Extension will be set up under the bridge with preservation tips and techniques to help you make the summer's bounty last. www.haymakermarket.com for more info.

Of course the entire weekend doesn't begin and end with the Farmers' Market. Friday night will be D.I.C.E.'s (Downtown Innovative Community Events) last Sidewalk Cinema of the summer. “Where the Wild Things Are” closes out the movie season, but not the D.I.C.E. calendar; don't forget CiderFest in November! Then Saturday from 12-5 we'll welcome the incoming KSU freshmen to downtown. Main St. from Water to Depeyster will be blocked off, and storefronts outside that area are being given the opportunity to set up a booth to meet & greet the new students. Come down & mingle!

And if your looking outside of Kent, don't forget that this is the last weekend of the Randolph Fair. Last chance until next year!

Coming full circle news-wise, we're back to Stahl's; a big THANK YOU! goes out to Webmaster Shane for adjusting our website. Check it out for our new printable menu: www.kentbakery.com
